Daily Inspiration from Proverbs 4 P.37 – The Wrong Path

Proverbs 4: King James Bible

The Wrong Path – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter four, Verses 14-17

14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. 15 Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

16 For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. 17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

Daily Inspiration from These Verses – The Wrong Path

If you’ve entered into the path of the wicked, it’s because you’ve removed yourself from the path that the Lord had prepared for you. Throughout these devotionals, we’ve spoken about the use of the word “path” several times.

Verses 14-17, is a heads up that every once and awhile, our paths do cross or intersect with the paths of the wicked. When that happens, what do we do?

The Father warns us here, that when these do intersect, to stay the course, and not to deviate from the path that you’re walking on in Christ. Don’t stand in the middle of the intersection and check out how the other road is, or try to take a peek as to where it leads.

Isn’t that when you might get hit by traffic? The Lord has created a path specifically for you, and to remove yourself from it, is in fact rejecting what he’s done, and rejecting what he’s got planned for you in the future.

The response to the road of the wicked that we are given in verse 15, is because of how tempting it is for us, to be curious enough to just take a few steps down the wrong road, just to see where it might lead. Even with the best intentions, once you’re willing to take a taste of wickedness, it’s the willingness that draws you off that path, and makes you that much more of a target for the wicked.

If I were willing to take part in witchcraft, guess what happens from there? Despite the fact that I’ve not yet made any move toward going through with it, that willingness is like blowing a spiritual trumpet.

This invites any wicked thing to take the wheel, and will do whatever it takes to bend your willingness until it turns into an iniquity, followed by the sin. So as we traverse, stick to the direction that the Lord has already made for you.

If you’ve got any question about that path, the book of Proverbs will give you as much info as is necessary, so that you’ll know. The Lord knows what’s ahead, don’t worry about looking down any other road. I can guarantee one thing as an indicator…

You’ll be going against the grain of the world.

12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; 13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed. 14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

Romans 1:

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30 Backbiters, haters of God, spiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

As we traverse in the way that you’ve prepared for us, cause for us to see clearly the road ahead. Let us not fall into the temptation of following any other, down any other road. We follow you Father, to wherever you’d like us to go as we walk with you. In Jesus name we pray.

Spiritually speaking, have you ever thought you were doing just great, until the Lord opened your eyes, just to find that you were on the wrong path?
