Daily Inspiration from Proverbs 13 P.146 – Truth in Righteousness

Proverbs 13: King James Bible

Truth in Righteousness – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter thirteen, Verses 5-6

5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame. 6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Truth in Righteousness

Here are two verses, that intermingle with one another. What I mean by that is, you can take half of one, crash it into half of the other, and it’d seem as if it were meant to be. I’ll show you what I mean below…

A righteous man hateth lying, (because) righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way.

A wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame, (because) wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

A man’s righteousness will cause his own conscience to convict him. And as the verse says, he’ll hate it. And if it’s not his conscience that’s bothering him about it, the Holy Ghost will be right there, to condemn the heart, till something is done to remedy.

This is most noticeable when you’ve had your conscience cleaned and cleared by the cleansing power of the Lord, then do something (like lie about something), to tarnish that freshly cleaned conscience. The Holy Ghost is a great helper in this department, but it doesn’t feel like help, but feels more like condemnation.

But it’s not condemnation, but rather, a Father trying to prod you in the right direction. That direction is typically made difficult by the lies that we may have spoken, or whatever the case may be. I’m using lies as the focus, because of the verse above. But this is really standard for any sin done knowingly.

He wants you to make it right, because he knows the consequences for not doing so. We may never know fully what the consequences may be, until we’re explaining ourselves before the Lord one day.

Putting unforeseen consequences aside, the Father clearly would rather us be righteous, and live righteously and upright in all our ways. The reasoning is made clear above.

He doesn’t want anyone to be overtaken by their own wickedness. It is not his will for any to perish, or become loathsome and put to shame. What earthly father would want those kinds of things for their own children?

If a flawed earthly father wants what’s best for his child, how much more so, does our Heavenly Father want for us to do well, be well, and to do what’s right in his eyes (which is what’s best)? We aren’t even capable to understand the depths of the heart of the Lord.

Even with all the information that he’s given us through his Word and Spirit, I’d be willing to bet, that we’ve only discovered about a snowflake’s worth, that rests atop of the proverbial iceberg.

Thank you for every time, you’ve done what you can in order to steer us the way we should go. Thank you for giving us your Holy Ghost, who convicts us to do right, and to stay in the way of righteousness. Particularly when so often, it is so easy to stumble and change course. Thank you and we praise you for always being there, our Heavenly and perfect Father. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.

Have you ever felt the conviction of the Holy Ghost to speak truth in righteousness when it’s difficult to do?
