Daily Inspiration from This Verse – Vision for Life
Again, we are presented with an outstanding verse that is packed with several different ways we can interpret it. Ingeniously packaged in a short and sweet sentence.
I’ve called this devotional “Vision for Life,” because that is exactly what this verse is about. It doesn’t make any difference the context, be it spiritual or physical. One will inevitably lead to the other Lord willing.
There is a connection being made in the verse above, between the “vision” and “the law.” If there were not, why would the Lord have orchestrated this verse the way he did?
And if there is a connection between those two items, that would mean that those who perished didn’t keep the law. Those who kept the law gained a vision from it.
The vision for life is not an end all to what we want to do with ourselves, as one may think. Everyone either had or has, a vision or a plan for their lives. Rich, poor, it doesn’t matter. Everybody has at one point harbored a particular vision for their future.
Take those things and set them aside. This verse has nothing to do with our plan for our own future in those kinds of terms.
What is the vision for life? What exactly is the Lord talking about in the verse above when he says “Where there is no vision, the people perish?”
That vision isn’t referring to how we’d like to retire, or the line of work we want to excel in. It’s referring to the vision that the Father provides, as we learn what he wants our eternal whereabouts to be.
This goes far beyond career or anything like that. The vision for life is that which leads us to life, and life abundant. While we keep and observe his law (his Word, advice, ways, precepts, his will, etc.), he aids us and helps us along toward that goal.
Along the way, we find that all of our sub-visions change as we grow in him. We seek his will rather than our own, and search out his plan, rather than trusting in our own.
As the Word says, happy is he. When we walk down the path that the Lord has established rather than our own, our vision that awaits at the end of the race becomes more clear.
We walk and live by faith, and a time will come for us all when we will cross over that threshold. We’re given Jesus who has cleansed all of his who have been saved from all sin. This gives us entry into the presence of the Father, and begin to live out the REAL vision of life, that we’ve aimed toward throughout our walk in him.
But those who had not the law, nor a vision that gives preparation of what’s to come, the same will perish. These are godless people, or those who chased after false gods.
The vision of a godless person concentrates on the means to an end, without having a clue of what the end means. Those who went after false gods and false doctrines, they will learn the hard way that they’ve been sold a bill of goods, and purveyed it to others, and will need to explain themselves at the judgement.
Happy are they who’s God is the Lord, and who has been redeemed from hell and death, and will not suffer the actual taste of death! All praise and glory unto the Lord!
Let your vision be straight from the pages of God’s Word, and the promises that he has given to his saints!

Acts 2: King James Bible
16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: 19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke:
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come: 21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Acts 2: King James Bible
25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: 26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: 27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
Colossians 3: King James Bible
1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
2 Peter 1: King James Bible
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, 3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Thank you for your Word, and for all of the encouragement and strength it provides for us. We aim toward an eternity in your presence, and in your service Father. Through your Word and by your Spirit, help us to gain a greater handle on the vision that you want us to concentrate on. Enlarge our spiritual field of vision, so as to see the end of the race, and a clear path to tread with you concerning how to get there. Keep our feet from stumbling, and strengthen our resolve through all of the tough times that may fall into our path. This we pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Do you have a vision for life that transcends this short space of time we’ve been given?
