Daily Inspiration from Proverbs 21 P. 303 – Way of Man

Proverbs 21: King James Bible

Way of Man – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter twenty one, Verse 8

8 The way of man is froward and strange: but as for the pure, his work is right.

Daily Inspiration from This Verse – Way of Man

The use of the word “froward” here is interesting. Can anyone argue this truth, that the way of man is froward and strange? I certainly won’t argue with it!

The meaning of the word “froward,” is to be difficult to deal with, wilfully contrary, or not easily managed. Throw in the word strange, and we’ve got ourselves the recipe for the way of man, after his fallen state.

A couple of questions might come to mind. Man’s ways are froward and strange to who, and compared to what? The answer to who, would be the Father. Our ways are certainly not his ways, and vice versa. Compared to what, would be compared to the original design that the Lord had in the first place, before the fall of man.

There is only one method available, given to us as a free gift, in order to correct the way of man. This is a gift from the Lord, by way of Christ Jesus. This gift is only available by virtue of what Jesus accomplished on the cross, and the invitation of him into our lives. If this is new to you, check out the Salvation page, and ask the Lord into your life!

Jesus is the one acceptable course to take, in order to achieve righteousness between us and the Father. It takes the Author of Life, to ease the consequences of man’s fall, and to make any form of purity available to us. Not that we are pure in ourselves, but only through and in Christ.

One thing we tackled early on with these devotionals, is that the Lord prepares our way before us. He guides our steps and leads us by the hand through inevitable obstacles, and makes available to all who will receive it, all of the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, it takes to avoid unnecessary trials and troubles.

But because of our own ignorance, or maybe by all out disobedience, we can just as easily wind up right back on the old path. That hazy and unsure way of man, froward and strange. In my personal opinion, this is where Christians tend to fall back and reside, if one winds up backsliding.

The ways of this world are wicked and they influence everything everywhere, including the ways of man. But man’s ways are difficult without influence of this world. Due to Adam’s fall, we don’t need help in order to make our lives difficult to deal with, wilfully contrary, or not easily managed. With no extra intervention, that is the natural way of things.

That’s why Jesus took supernatural steps, in order to set us free from the froward and strange way, and has lead us unto himself. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Thank you for the free gift of salvation. It is available to us freely, but cost you your only begotten Son. Thank you for your mercy and your longsuffering toward us Father. If any one of us are on a way that you haven’t prepared before us, pluck us up off of it, and place us headed in the right direction, down the right way. Help us avoid getting tangled up with the ways of this world, or sliding back into the froward way of man. This we pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Have you ever recognized any difference between the ways of the world versus the way of man?
