Wearing is Sharing

When someone becomes inquisitive over an article of clothing, it’s evidence that wearing is sharing. Many people who have received Christ and live after the Father’s heart often find that evangelical witnessing is much like making cold calls. There are some frequent excuses that come when the topic of witnessing is brought discussed.

  • Not many people feel like they can do it
  • Not many feel qualified
  • Striking up a conversation is not a strong suit
  • Feels like you’re imposing or soliciting
  • Persecution
  • Overall sense of not wanting to bother anybody

 Excuses, Excuses

All the other excuses spawn for a few reasons. The discomfort of reaching beyond one’s comfort zone, lack of confidence, or maybe someone is truly just plain bad at starting up conversations. All are valid excuses. Lots of people aren’t comfortable with evangelical witnessing. Some people just flat out don’t want to be preachy.Even less people want to be preached to anyways. However, most people have questions about life, death, afterlife, etc.. Sometimes all they need is an excuse to ask.

A Solution – Wear it

Make those Star Wars fans look twice.

Hence the title of this page, Wearing is Sharing! One thing you can do that doesn’t tip the apple cart is to wear your faith. There’s no need to bash people in the head with the bible if others are asking you about what you’re wearing. However, I’d advise that you have your testimony well established in you, so when you have a chance to share it with someone, you can.

Back somewhere in the early 90’s, when I was much younger both in Christ and in age, I always had that hesitation(for lack of a better way to say it) concerning sharing my faith with others. Eventually I wound up with my first Christian T-Shirt. Lord’s Gym (His Pain your Gain), and wore it around every whenever, not putting much thought into what others are reading off of my shirt.

Let me tell you, if you feel alone as a Christian, get yourself a T-shirt proclaiming your faith. I don’t know how many times someone would check out mine and tell me how cool it was and would actually introduce themselves as a brother or sister in Christ!

Planting Seed

Spock Wear it and Share itAnd sure enough, random people did stop me once and awhile to inquire about the message on my shirt. And anyone else, well, if they read it, a seed was planted & the rest is God’s business.

Back then there was no internet to order from, so I’d have to travel to the closest Bible Bookstore or Christian Gift shop at the time which was about 35 minutes away. But now it’s pretty easy to get your hands on some great Christian T-shirts or other apparel that will make your faith plain to any that have a set of eyeballs.

Use whatever is available to you to get the message of the Cross out to any willing to hear. Be it a website, clothing, apparel, jewelry, hats or simply carry around a Bible! Pray before even leaving the house for God to use you in some way for His glory. At the end of the day, God’s will be done one way or another.

Thanks for reading this page, I hope it’s encouraged you to wear it and share it. To check out some great Christian clothing and other apparel, (some of which are in the pics above) please visit Kerusso. Not only do they have a huge selection of clothing (including hats), but they’ve got other items of interest like: Gifts, Jewelry, books, etc..

Going out of your way to witness to someone may not be for you. But if you wear clothes, you can partake in the most comfortable way to shine the light of the Word in a dark and fallen world. And perhaps, Lord willing, you may find yourself leading someone to Christ because of a great message on your shirt. Wearing is sharing, the need for witnessing is great.

  1. Thank you for all the information. I like the name of your site, “Supernatural Truth in Christ” As a Christian myself, I would join you in sharing the truth about this supernatural truth that is available to everyone. All the best in your witness and trust that everyone who visits your site will be blessed and will be open to this powerful message that there is supernatural truth in Christ. Blessings!

    • Hi there Rodney,

Thank you for your kind remarks and I hope you enjoy the site! I gave it that name because it seems that the occult, psychics, mediums, ghost hunters, etc., seem to have a monopoly over the minds of people out there. Somehow the thought of Christianity has become mundane and pretty much a structured casual theme in many circles. The teeth have been removed from the Word by several watered down versions of the Bible and quite often anything supernatural is squelched. As far as I’m concerned, there is nothing more supernatural than God the Father, Christ Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the Bible, and everything in it.

I actually believe that we (the Body of Christ) should have all the answers available to the supernatural questions that everyone seems to have out there. But, the church for the most part has ignored the kinds of things that have been amping up in the past 30 years or so. Aliens, UFO’s, Ghosts, to name a few are huge these days and are being reported all over the place and in huge numbers. If the church isn’t willing to get some skin in the game and become able to explain these weird things to people from a Biblical view, then they will find answers from the world.

I try to point out the supernatural nature of the things that the Lord has shown me through his Word. And there’s supernatural stuff going on all the time in there, but not always in your face obvious, those are the things I like to discover and talk about the most!

Well there’s a ramble about why I called it Supernatural Truth in Christ. lol. If I keep going it may just go from being a response to a comment to a fresh blog post!!!

Anyways, thank you very much and God bless you!

  2. Thought provoking article. However, are you certain that this approach is for everyone? Before you say that this is just another excuse, isn’t it true that we all have different gifts and abilities? Maybe I can effectively witness in a way you are unable, does that mean you should also have to do it the same way? I have seen enormous damage done through hypocrisy and wearing Christian T-shirts has been a part of that (done in the wrong way). I do think it can be a fantastic testimony done in the right way, I am just not sure it is for everyone. But I also know I could be wrong and I will think about it some more.

    • Hi Dave,

Sure I believe that this approach is for everyone. Why not? Everyone wears clothes, right? But if someone is comfortable striking up a conversation then go for it. Not everybody is (I know I’m not). I for example am a much more effective responder than I am a conductor. And I wouldn’t say that you would be using any excuses by doing something differently, because you’re still doing something. I never said nor meant to come across that way. If you are doing something to get the word out to people somehow than awesome! Certainly doesn’t have to be any single way to get it done, so long as it gets done.

A toe has difficulty hearing things. That’s why we’ve got ears. As we’ve got many members in our bodies that function differently, so should the Body of Christ. Believing differently as far as the gospel goes is a different issue. But preaching the gospel can be done in so many ways for so many people. What I was talking about when I mentioned excuses was not bothering witnessing at all.

Concerning what you mentioned about hypocrisy… The clothes doesn’t make someone a hypocrite any more than calling yourself a Christian mean you’re a follower of Christ. Hypocrites are everywhere and will be around till the cows come home. If you see someone behaving as a hypocrite wearing a Christian T-shirt, maybe you could ask him why he’s wearing it. I guess one could argue that would be the flip side of a T-shirt being a witness. lol.

But to your point, if someone is going to head out sporting a Christian T-shirt, they’d be a fool if they didn’t think people were taking notice whether or not their behavior reflected who they’re advertising. So yes, in that sense I can see your point. People are always watching and judging. Nobody’s perfect, but come on people… If you put on a suit and tie, why would you walk out the door and jump in a swamp? It just doesn’t make any sense. It does hurt the cause of Christ if you don’t walk the walk while your T-shirt is talking the talk.

However, I still think there is waaaaaaaaay more good than harm using this approach especially if we stay mindful that the Lord is always with us watching how we handle everything that comes our way.

Whew, another long answer. lol. Sorry about that. Hey Dave thank you veryu much for your thought provoking comment and God bless you in Christ Jesus!

  3. Hello Brian! I really enjoy your site! I think putting what you want to say on a T-shirt is brilliant. I’m from New York! So I take the trains a lot. A lot of times people would come on the train asking people to repent their sins.

I personally didn’t like that approach. I feel that they were imposing their beliefs on other people. I mean not everyone believes in god. They have so many religions out there. Which one is right? But with a T-shirt it gives them a choice. If they want to read it they can. If they want more information they can ask.

People like choices and don’t want to be force. I personally believe in god because I experience it. You don’t know other peoples experiences in life. I’ve seen your experiences and relationship with god via this web-site. I feel it is commendable.

    Keep up the good work!

    • Well thank you Francesca! Some people do that because the Lord is instructing them to witness in that way. You never know what is resting on the hearts of those that are hearing it. However, others witness in that manner because that’s how they think it’s done.

The way I see it, I guess if they are leading people to Christ then more power to them. Some people have no problem at all going into a crowd and just start preaching repentance, and that’s actually a good thing. But I’d guess and say that’s not the norm. Not for me anyways. I’d much rather be questioned than telling people something that might just shut them down and quite possibly turn them away from Christ. That’s why it’s so important to do anything like that prayerfully, and do things lead by the Holy Spirit no matter the intentions.

The good thing about the whole T-Shirt idea is to provoke thought or perhaps some questions, opening the door to pinpoint things that they would have legitimate questions about. The thing is, if you’re provoking questions, you’d better be able to give the right answers. Maybe point them in the right direction where to find the answers. You know what I mean?

Thank you again for your comment and God bless you!

  4. Yes, wear your faith, but don’t act contrary to it or you will be seen like someone mocking religion, or you will have the opposite effect of people not taking Christianity that serious.

I must say that people who wears their faith makes me feel like I can trust them even though I don’t know them. But, unfortunately, some wear it, but live an unrepentant sinful life or they idolize money or believe in horoscope. I’m just saying that we should be careful of the wolf wearing a sheep disguise. 🙂

    • Amen on that one Elizabeth! Matthew 7:15

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Another piece of scripture concerning what you’re talking about would be Matthew 7:16-17

16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

Thank you for your comment here in the wearing is sharing page!

  5. I am a Christian, but typically one that keeps it to myself. I think the idea of wearing one of these T-shirts is inspiring to both the one wearing it and the ones reading it in public. What a great idea!

  6. Omg, I love this post. As I began reading it, I began to tear and got goosebumps that ran the length of my spine…just affirmation that Lord is near.

Reading just makes me want to continue to live right at all cost. I like the fact that your verses were drawn from the KJV; very refreshing.

My dad has been a full-time evangelist for 32 years. Keep spreading the message of Christ to all that will listen. God bless you!

    • Hi Josh, Thank you for your comment! I’m glad that you are encouraged with what you’ve been reading. I use the KJV cause I believe that it is the “official” version. I find it to be much less watered down, and has a better set of teeth than the NIV or other versions. Once you get use to the thee’s thy’s and the thou’s it’s no problem. lol.

      Thanks again,

      • Your right it is the “official” version, the only version. He said don’t take away or add to it and that’s exactly what these other folks have done with these new editions to the Bible, especially the NIV.

I’ve never had a problem reading those words, it’s like second nature to me. I love reading the Word of God, even though I slack at time. In fact, I’m about to go read my Bible in a few.

  7. Hi! The phrase “wearing is sharing” is really catchy, and being a Christian myself I must say I’ve never thought about it in this way. I will proudly share by wearing my Christianity, not only with my clothes but also with the way I act and with what I say.
Thanks for not being afraid to stand up for Christianity!

    • Hi Stephanie,
I’ve heard it said: The only Jesus some people will ever see, is the Jesus in you & the Jesus in me. Great point with what you say and the way you act!
Romans 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof.
      Thank you for your comment!

    • Love it. I started wearing Christian tee shirts in the 90’s also. I found that it really made people uncomfortable. My own sister told me that I was pushing my faith in God into people’s faces and it was insulting! Just a few weeks ago I offered one to my mother, who is the one who goes to church every Sunday, and she told me that I could keep it to myself! Like that’s going to stop me? Funny how shorts that don’t ever cover the bum and skin tight revealing tops don’t offend anyone but Muslims, but God does? ?? Morality has gone out the window in today’s society.

      • Amen Paulette, thank you for your comment! Unfortunately we can expect that to get allot worse. The love of many will wax cold. Also keep in mind what Jesus said:
        Matthew 10
34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Just looking at your comment, it’s easy to see how that can happen. People are often uncomfortable when they are faced with the fact of their mortality, and the idea that they’re going to answer to someone is the last thing many people want to face (those without Christ). However anyone feels about it doesn’t make any difference. There’s still only one way to God the Father, they just flat out need to know that that one way is through Jesus.
God bless you and thanks again for your comment!
