Proverbs 10: King James Bible
Well of Life – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter ten, Verse 11
11 The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
Daily Inspiration from These Verses– Well of Life
The ladder half of the verse above could mean a couple of different things. The mouth of the wicked is covered with violence.
That could mean, that when the wicked person speaks, violence toward just about anything good comes out. On the other hand, it says covereth the mouth. Could that mean that something violent will happen to that said mouth? Not only do I believe that both of these thoughts apply as true, but I’d go further and say, that one leads to the other.
Nobody likes a bigmouth. When the wicked decide to spout off at the mouth, it’s usually either toward or about someone else. That someone else may very well, wind up being the one who decides to “covereth” that person’s mouth with violence. A Biblical term for this would be to “lay his hands on him suddenly.”
That’s kind of easy to imagine, considering that in this society, there’s no shortage of violence, and there’s no shortage of wicked bigmouths. However, a mouth of a righteous man receives far less attention, considering that a righteous man’s words are rarely considered exciting enough to be “newsworthy.”
So, why is the mouth of a righteous man a well of life? Firstly, we need to observe, that the righteous man is righteous for a reason. This man is in right standing with the Lord, in order to be righteous in the first place.
There is only one way that the Lord can see us as righteous, and that’s when he looks upon us and can see his Son, Christ Jesus. It’s through the mouth of a righteous man, that the Holy Ghost will speak.
And when that happens, from that person’s belly bubbles up rivers of living water. Would that not be comparable to a well of life? I believe so.
I believe that in this well of life that is available through the mouth of a righteous man, we can find:
- things that are lovely
- things of a good report

Philippians 4: King James Bible
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Luke 6: King James Bible
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
In all of our comings and goings, please keep a guard on our mouths, so that whatever comes out is comparable to that of the righteous man. Take the coal Lord, and cleanse our lips, should they be stained with wickedness, and should our hearts not be right, please take our hearts of stone, and replace them with a heart of flesh, so that we will not breach the spirit with our words, nor stifle the Holy Ghost because of our hard hearts. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.
Did you know that the chances are pretty good, that you were saved because of a well of life from the mouth of a righteous person?
