Proverbs 9: King James Bible
Willingly Ignorant – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter nine, Verses 7-9
7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot. 8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Willingly Ignorant
While chewing on these verses, trying to receive what the Lord would like for me to write about it, I came up with a question. Have I ever reproved a scorner, that ended in a positive light? Have I ever got into it with a wicked man concerning Christ Jesus, and wound up changing their mind?
The answer to both of those questions are a resounding no. There are no shortages of either the wicked or scorners (oftentimes they are one in the same), and they either will not hear anything you have to say concerning the gospel, or they come to you with particular questions, that have an expected response, and then throw their rehearsed rebut.
I’ve spent days going back and forth with people like this, and not a one of them are interested in how you answer, or what it is you have to say. They are driven by a hatred that they don’t understand.
Oh they may think they understand their hatred against the Lord, but it is a spiritual conditioning driven by spiritual means. The spirit of the anti-Christ has been at work for thousands of years, and it will not cease, until it finds itself licking the flames of the Lake of Fire.
And the more I thought about these things, and related them to the verses above, it seems that I should have payed a bit more attention and given it some thought a long time ago. Maybe I’d be less a few gray hairs should I have really taken this lesson of the Lord in.
All that having been said, there are people out there that do show up with a legitimate question about the Lord or about Christianity, angels, demons, spiritual type things, etc.. As Christians, or should I say, as Ambassadors of Christ, it should behoove us to not only take the time to answer these questions, but actually be ready with a sound Biblical answer.
This is the driving reason that I wrote the book,”Kingdom of Darkness in a Fallen World.” Not only to equip Brothers and Sisters with Bible backed, and Bible based answers to many of the tough questions nonbelievers ask, but for those who are curious; they can pick it up and find their answers, and hopefully dig deeper into an eventual decision to be saved and washed by the Blood of the Lamb.
But unfortunately, to paraphrase the verses above; some people can handle the truth and become wiser for it, others can’t handle the truth and receive it as an attack on the sinful lifestyle, or an infringement on their rights to be ignorant.
It’s one thing to be ignorant of something, because simple ignorance is curable with revelation. But people who are willingly ignorant will never hear what you’re saying despite your best intentions, and no matter the dire consequences that they may face.
For those, only direct intervention somehow from the Father, can move them off of their pedestal, and expose their folly against the truth of the Lord.

Acts 26: King James Bible
14 And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
2 Peter 3: King James Bible
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
You tell us to redeem the time, because the days are evil. Help us not to kick against the pricks, and to not dwell long with trying to pull from the fire, those who you know in advance, will never decide to follow you or obey you, or receive the only means by which we may be saved, through Christ Jesus. If there is hope, may it be quickened, should there be none, cause for us to find those who will receive your Word and be better for it, instead of suffering the mocking of scoffers and the wickedness of the wicked. May your words above in these verses of scripture come into our remembrance should we be in a situation that calls for your wisdom, in the name of the Lord Jesus we pray.
