Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Wisdom of Solomon
Immediately, the introduction to this chapter is letting us know who the author is going to be. We haven’t seen this since chapter one.
I think it’s interesting to note, that there’s a sequence of authorship switches throughout the chapters. First chapter opens up with “the Proverbs of Solomon.” But this changes a bit in chapter four, and I think we take it for granted.
In chapter four, it changes from “proverbs of Solomon” to “the instruction of a Father.” We take it for granted that it’s Solomon talking, referring to the proverbs given him from his father. Physically this is rather clear, and that’s what I think’s going on here too.
However, it should behoove us to remember that this is a spiritual book as well as physical. On the spiritual side of things, authorship from chapter four to chapter ten, are switched back and forth between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
You can almost discern who’s talking when you read these chapters with this in mind. Personally, I think that’s amazing.
Concerning what else is being said in the verse above, this is a truth that needs to be drilled into the head of every child out there. Trust me, I speak from experience on both ends of this issue.
As a former rebellious child, I can look back and understand the burdens that my behavior created to my family around me. How was I able to understand? Well, by the burdens that my own children have cause me and the rest of my family.
If you’re a young parent of small children, or are planning to have kids, and feel that you don’t have enough mental, emotional, or financial issues, then ignore the scripture above. Just be a cool parent, and trust that your kids will make the right decisions and do what’s right.
Especially during the teenage years, you’ll reap the fruit of this with a full cup of things that you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy. But I digress…
Get any scripture into the mindset of your children as quick and as consistently as you are able, because there’re systems designed out there, which will be influencing your children on a daily basis, to turn them against the Lord, and against your authority as a parent.
Why the scripture above should benefit them the most, might be a great starting place. As you try to teach your children in the way they should go, what’s in it for them is usually pretty persuasive.

Hebrews 12:King James Bible
5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: 6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
Ephesians 6:King James Bible
6 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honor thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
We are your children, and we need you in every area of our lives. Even in the areas that we aren’t aware of yet. Help us Lord, to take heed to the scriptures above, and apply it to ourselves toward you, as your children, just as we want our children to apply it toward us. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.
