Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Wise of Heart

This is one of those kinds of verses, that is easily understood from the onset. I’d say from a common sense point of view, you can come up with several scenarios where you’d find this verse to ring true. Perhaps in your immediate family, or witnessed it play out in someone else’s family.

But to stay true to how we’ve been dissecting the Word of God throughout these devotionals, let’s take a look at the bigger picture that this verse may point us toward. When we do that, most often we wind up examining the spiritual layer that the Lord has tucked into the verse, so that we may relate to it as believers in Christ Jesus.

If we were to broaden the scope of this verse to represent a much larger family (which is what “house” stands for in the verse above), what’s the largest extent we can take and apply this verse? What if we took it to the most broad family that spans for generations, and across every continent?

I’m talking about the family of God. Are we who are saved, not brothers and sisters in the Lord? Does that not resemble a family? I believe it does. The meaning begins to form its own gravity when we really absorb what this verse may imply.

A few devotionals ago, I spoke toward folks who believe it’s their job to call people out, to judge the brethren, to do their utmost to tarnish reputations, thinking they have the authority to condemn people to hell, because they understand scripture differently, etc.. All the things that the Lord has qualified himself to be able to do, not us.

In fact, we’re told to be longsuffering, easily entreated, wise as serpents and innocent as doves, and especially to judge not lest we be judged. So many people get this mixed up, because we are supposed to be able to judge between right and wrong, sin and righteousness, etc.. But to condemn (or try to) a brother or sister in the Lord because you’ve found fault, simply is not your job.

Many places the Lord wants us to use good judgement concerning matters, not to lay down judgement on the shoulders of others. There is one Judge, and he hasn’t given up the gavel, nor will he.

So what are these folks doing? Well, if we use the scripture above, we could say that they are troubling their own house. Instead of lifting up, they tear down. Instead of building upon the foundation of Christ, they’re treading on sinking sand, persecuting others who think differently than they. So what will be their inheritance?

We’ve got Christ Jesus in us, the Hope of Glory, the King of Kings! He is always available to give us wisdom should we only ask for it. He would rather his children be wise of heart, instead of fools. He would rather us build up, instead of tear down, as it relates to the Family of God.

Notice the verse is specific as it says,”the wise of heart.” What it doesn’t say is,”the wise of brain or mind.” Again, the Lord is interested in our heart condition!

He is available to take our hearts of stone, and replace them with a heart of flesh, should we invite him to do so. When the Father grants us wisdom, especially the wisdom of the Holy Ghost, it lands and rests right in our hearts.

Help us Lord, to be wise of heart. For those of us who are called by your name, and are still hard of heart, please take this moment Father, to replace it with a heart of flesh, and also should our mind be a problem in your eyes, put upon us the mind of Christ, so that we deal with things the way you’d want us to, and see your children from your point of view, and through your love for the brethren. This we pray in the name of Christ Jesus the Lord.

Have you noticed the Lord causing for you to be more wise of heart since being a Believer?
