Daily Inspiration from Proverbs 25 P. 379 – Words of Value

Proverbs 25: King James Bible

Words of Value – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter twenty five, Verses 11-12

11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. 12 As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Words of Value

A word fitly spoken could be summed up as something said in a proper suitable manner, or at the proper suitable time. It doesn’t mean that there’s genius at play here, but something said that fits or settles a situation.

We should also recognize that a word fitly spoken doesn’t have to be good news or bad. Words of value don’t need to be nice or comforting. Sometimes, if we just seek to comfort people, we can do more harm than good. Speaking words that would make someone more comfortable with a crime they’ve committed, or are about to commit, for example.

In fact, emotional impact is irrelevant concerning the verses above, but what is at play, is the wisdom of the speaker, and the obedient ears of the hearer. Words of value can mean more to someone than anything else that can be given.

Lives change for the better, people turn from doing what is evil in the sight of the Lord, to doing what is right, while others may gain instruction that gets them out of a hole. The possibilities are endless when people with obedient ears give heed to words of value.

Having obedient ears doesn’t mean gullible. Nor does it mean that someone should believe everything they hear in order to be obedient.

From a physical sense, we need to weigh whether something said to us as advice or instruction is valuable, or if it’s nonsense. They say that there’s a sucker born every minute. None of us should ever be found in that number.

What will always guide us physically, is how we respond to the Word of God and our upkeep in a spiritual sense. Do we incorporate words of value into our spirit? The source of these words should be from the Lord, by his Word. Every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Father, and every word that he has preserved for us to enjoy, are words of value.

As stated above, they are not all happy words or all self pleasing. But they are instrumental in building up our spirit, and getting ever closer to the Father. As many of us know, this bleeds over from spiritual to physical, making an impact around us from the inside out.

Unless of course, his Word falls upon deaf ears, rather than obedient. A wise reprover is no friend to those who don’t have Christ. They are not able to understand the things of the spirit, and therefore can’t receive your words.

This is where prayer and the Lord must step in and do what he does. What is impossible for us, is as easy as a thought to the Lord.

1 Corinthians 2: King James Bible

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

1 Corinthians 12: King James Bible

7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

Colossians 3: King James Bible

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Prayer

Father,

Thank you for your Word, which is so important to all of us. If any of us are lacking in the obedience department, surely you know. Open our ears to wise reproof, instruction in righteousness, and to your Holy Ghost, that we would hear your Word with obedient ears, and receive your words of value with readiness of heart and mind. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.

Amen

  1. Thanks Brian…a very profound/deep subject you bring to us here. Someone who is worldly, would mockingly say to us “Oh, so God speaks to you?! Well then, what does He say”?! Just open His King James Word…yep, it’s all here!! But the carnal will never have an ear, for what the Lord is telling us (all of humanity). And your study today also brings to mind what we say…what words do we speak to the Lord? What words do we speak to one another? I guaranty it, words will have a far more lasting effect on us, than any gift given. Words that are uplifting, or words that are harsh, these have a lasting effect. Hope all is well with you, Brother…stay strong.

    • Hi George.
You’re absolutely right! Words are far more powerful than we often realize, and with them we can build up or tear down someone. The Lord hammers this into our minds and hearts all over the place through scripture. I think if we begin to take him seriously concerning the things that wind up coming out of our mouths, we would be much more reserved with our choices.

Also, we can think back to different things that people may have said to harm us or otherwise negatively impact us, and cast them down, loosening the effect that they might still have. In other words, removing curses. Some people think of witches or people in the occult when it comes to cursing people. Not the case at all. We all have the ability to bless or curse someone or something, with the things that come from our heart, and out of our mouths.

Thank you for the comment Brother! God bless!
