Daily Inspiration from Proverbs 14 P.167 – Your Tabernacle

Proverbs 14: King James Bible

Your Tabernacle – Daily Devotion of Proverbs chapter fourteen, Verse 11

11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.

Daily Inspiration from These Verses – Your Tabernacle

You can read the verse above, and call foul right out of the gate. We all know of wicked people who live out their lives seemingly in the lap of luxury, while upright people take it on the chin. That is of course, if you are looking at the verse from a fleshly perspective.

This is a spiritual verse, not a literally physical, or fleshly verse. After all, how many of us roll out and set up tabernacles everywhere we go? I know I don’t have one. The closest I’ve ever had to my own physical tabernacle was a camping tent.

As far as the verse above is concerned, what’s a house, or what’s a tabernacle? Even if we look at it through a spiritual lens, what exactly are we supposed to be thinking about concerning these things?

The answer to those questions reside in the following statement, which I’ve brought up a time or two throughout these devotionals. We are spiritual beings, clothed in a soul, and housed in a body.

This mindset matters when reading the verse above. The verse speaks of the house of the wicked. It doesn’t say their house will be destroyed, killed, removed, etc.. It says overthrown. For something to be overthrown, someone needs to be the over-thrower.

I would propose to you, that the first half of verse 11 is speaking about demonic possession. When someone becomes demonically possessed, their house has been overthrown. Only Jesus can remedy this, but without someone being willing to allow him to intervene, that house will remain overthrown, till there’s nothing left.

Now the other half of the verse, changes the building type. It’s not a house anymore, but instead a tabernacle. A tabernacle, is a portable earthly meetinghouse between man and God. That’s an extremely short description of what the tabernacle was.

This is where the meaning becomes clear. Reason being, is that scripture tells us that we are living temples of the Lord. See scriptures below for reference, but we are “houses” or “tabernacles” of the Holy Ghost. And it’s only through Christ Jesus, are we upright at all.

This is wonderful news for we who serve Christ Jesus, and reason to celebrate. According to scripture, we’re supposed to flourish. The tabernacle of the upright shall flourish! Also…

We can also project this into the future, and attribute the second half of this verse, to our brand new, glorified bodies, for which we are sealed by the Holy Ghost as a promise. It’s coming for all of us who are Christ’s, also, another cause for celebration!

2 Corinthians 5: King James Bible

1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: 3 If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.

4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

Ephesians 1: King James Bible

12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Thank you again for your Word and your lessons, and for giving us the opportunity to see the spiritual messages you’ve included, as well as those that are physical. Please keep in our remembrance, that we were all bought with a price, the precious blood of your dear Son. And also may the Spirit move us to remember that we are temples and tabernacles, within which we convene with you all the time. Thank you Father. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray.

Ever notice that the world does all that it can, to attempt to convince you to fold up your tabernacle?
